On Tuesday 1 September 2026, Lichfield District Council launched its free ‘Find My Loved One’ campaign, enabled by Lumiio’s smart safeguarding technology. This campaign aims to reduce the time it takes to reunite a lost or wandering individual with dementia or Alzheimer’s, giving all those affected by the condition in Lichfield greater protection and peace of mind.

Dementia and Alzheimer’s in the Lichfield District

Alzheimer’s Research UK reports that 1.46K people are living with dementia in the Lichfield District. This is an average of 1.54% of individuals living with dementia, an increase of just over 50% higher than the national average of 1%.

In early 2026, Lichfield District Council reached out to safeguarding technology developer Lumiio to discuss the potential of a dementia safeguarding initiative that would support those affected by the condition in the Lichfield District. The seeds of this conversation have now come to fruition with the launch of the anticipated ‘Find My Loved One’ campaign, held at the headquarters of non-profit charity Grace Cares.

What is the ‘Find My Loved One’ Campaign?

Along the same lines as Devon & Cornwall Police’s Dementia Safeguarding Scheme, the ‘Find My Loved One’ campaign makes an individual with dementia or Alzheimer’s emergency contacts and essential information instantly accessible.

This campaign will focus on sparking community support for those living with and affected by dementia and Alzheimer’s. It aims to provide support for those living with dementia and Alzheimer’s who are prone to wandering by prompting members of the community to tap their smart, Lumiio-enabled device to call their emergency contacts and get them safely back to their loved ones.

The eco-friendly care champions, Grace Cares, will be leading this campaign on an ongoing basis, alongside a range of other community organisations, providing support for Lichfield District residents in need of the smart ID devices. The ‘Find My Loved One’ campaign is in line with Grace Care’s existing goal to make care sustainable, as the smart IDs are reusable and designed for daily wear for at least 5 years!

What To Look Out For?

This initiative will provide a total of over 2,000 Lumiio-enabled dementia safeguarding devices to Lichfield District residents living with dementia, Alzheimer’s, and other related conditions. All devices have Lichfield District Council’s ‘Find My Loved One’ campaign branding, in a deep teal with white writing to ensure accessible readability for all- including those living with dementia.

How Does the ‘Find My Loved One’ Campaign Work?

The ‘Find My Loved One' Campaign is enabled by Lumiio’s smart safeguarding technology. These wearable devices have NFC microchips embedded within them, the same technology that powers contactless payments like Google or Apple Pay!

All Lumiio devices store vulnerable individuals' essential information, making it instantly accessible in any emergency through the tap of a smartphone.

Using NFC ensures that Lumiio devices can make essential information accessible whenever it’s needed. Because the vast majority of modern smartphones are natively NFC-enabled, our devices can be scanned without using the free Lumiio.io app.

We have been involved in similar initiatives across the UK, including recent work with Devon & Cornwall Police, South Yorkshire Police, and Sefton Carers Centre and Council.

Carer’s Week 2026 is being held from Monday 8th June until Sunday 14th and is focusing on “Building Carer Friendly Communities”. Unpaid carers prop up the UK’s health and social care sectors yet receive very little support, the majority feel overwhelmed and need more help. During Carer’s Week it is important to do what you can to recognise the importance of carers, support the work they do, and signpost where they can receive extra help.
